Safe Place for a Woman?

Postby uplana » Sat May 02, 2009 4:12 am

Would you call California a safe place for a woman? I think California is safer than most places in the world. I feel very safe as the people here are so genuine and gives you a sense of security. What are your views?

I don't think there are any safe places in this world for women particular. It all depends on how we behave with others, intentions and the best thing is always be cautious and alert in whatever places we are.

People are still people and even though you may be able to relax a bit more then you would be in other countries, you can't be foolish and think you are in a safe little bubble.

There are no real safe places for women.

I always thought London in the United Kingdom would be a safe place with all this video cameras around every corner. But a friend of mine was robbed there, so I still do not believe in "safe"places.

California is way too big for a general question like that. If California were a country, it would be in the top ten largest economies in the world. Are you talking about NorCal or SoCal? Even divided in half, the state is huge. Just depends on where you are.

When you go out, its always good to have a friend (male or otherwise) walk you to your car. Also, I usually call or text friends when I'm out to let them know I've arrived safely.

I think it's safer for female visitors in comparison to other parts of the world.

Again, it really depends on which part of San Francisco you are talking about. There's no way I'd even set foot in the Hunter's Point area but would have no problem meeting someone in the Polk Street or Castro Street area, even though those are the gay parts of town. If I met a woman there, at least there would be limited competition. :D

It also depends on the size or population of the place. When I visited Barbados I never had any problems. I felt very safe -- the island's so damn small, you know everyone!

Oh well, we can live in California. It isn't that it is a war zone or something. Being a major city, it has its share of crime and disturbances, but I don't think one can call California an unsafe place for a woman to live in.
