I know you wouldn't be here if you did not believe in online dating. But, sometimes, don't you feel that online dating is risky? I mean, you hardly even know the people you are communicating with. On the other hand, in traditional dating, trusted friends and family members introduce you to a guy/girl, and you carry on from there. What do you think?

As a person who has never been on a blind date, I am very curious about the experiences of those who have been on a blind date. Did you end up falling in love with your partner? Or was it a complete disappointment? Isn't it a bit scary...meeting a person you have never seen even though the friend who set you up is quite trustworthy?

I read about a senior who wanted to travel the US in his Winnebago. Because he didn't want to do the trip alone he advertised for a companion online, and he met a lady to travel with him. They agreed and made all their plans ahead of time, before even meeting. Oh well, to each their own, but I'd never get in a car with someone I never bet before!

Since California is such a big state, are there major differences in the way people think when you compare people from Northern California to those in Southern California? Does it affect the way people socialize?

I've discovered that a lunch date is a great way to meet someone for the first time. First of all, lunches can be inexpensive and secondly, if things don't work out, you haven't wasted an evening and can still do things with friends.

Had a discussion with a friend of mine about the first date and gifts.
Do you think, on the first date you should get a gift (rose, etc) from an absolute stranger?

I think its important for a woman to pay the utmost attention to safety if she is serious about meeting some from the online world. Last night I met someone from a pay site and I was so glad we met in a public place. It's not that he was a bad guy or anything, but it just made it feel so much more comfortable.

It always gives me a good laugh when I see a movie that has people who met via online dating, and then that same night have sex. I've never done that on a first date (with someone I met online or otherwise) and I vote against it, esp. if you want something longterm.
