Hello!

Had a discussion with a friend of mine about the first date and gifts.
Do you think, on the first date you should get a gift (rose, etc) from an absolute stranger?

Nope.. its not a good idea to give gifts on a first date except when the people know each other well (friends before). Gifts are better for the second and third dates. That's when they count. Although, if you really really like a woman, it's ok to bring a small gift on the first date (think a single rose) but nothing too expensive. The nothing-to-expensive rule holds for the 2nd and 3rd dates as well

Something other than a rose might be a nice gesture if you plan to give a flower. There's too much romance connected with a rose. But that's about all I would do just to keep it simple.

Everything depends on how well you know the person. Now, if you have had a crush on this person for ages before you gathered the guts to invite them on a date, a gift will go a long way. But if its a blind date or someone from online your meeting for the first time, theres no need for a gift. It all depends on the situation.

I think it would be a nice gesture for a guy to give the girl a nice flower on their first date. That would be very romantic. Well, I hope it would all end up in “they live happily ever after”.
